World Champions Artur Dalaloyan (RUS) and Simone Biles (USA) victorious at Stuttgart World Cup

After a sub-par performance at the Russian Championships, due to illness, Russian star Artur Dalaloyan picked up the pace at the all-around World Cup in Stuttgart. The reigning all-around world Champion posted the top scores on floor, rings and parallel bars. In the last rotation, Dalaloyan struggled on high bar, falling off twice (Cassina and layout Tkatchev) but his excellent performances on the other 5 apparatus earned him the gold medal, more than a point ahead of China’s Sun Wei. Ukraine’s Petro Pakhniuk clearly enjoyed a great day at the office, with the second highest scores in pommel horse and parallel bars. All smiles throughout the competition Pakhniuk got rewarded with the bronze medal, holding off home crowd favourite Marcel Nguyen (GER).

In the women’s competition, all eyes were on American living legend Simone Biles who said she wasn’t as well-prepared as she would have liked to be. But her incredible difficulty, combined with fine execution, got her cruising to victory. With the top scores on vault, bars and floor, Biles only had to concede the top spot on beam, to Canada’s Ana Padurariu, the silver medallist on this event at the 2018 World Championships, who clinched the silver medal here as well. Bronze went to German star Eli Seitz whose top-notch scores on vault and bars secured her ranking. France’s Lorette Charpy finished in fourth place, ahead of Russia’s Aliya Mustafina who came apart on beam.
