Six teams competed in today’s team final, battling it out on the field of play for continental honour.
Ukraine trailed the top qualifiers Romania by exactly a point after the first rotation on vault. They put in a solid effort on bars to outscore their rivals by 4 points, due to the sub-10 score of Ioana Stanciulescu, bridging a gap that Romania tried very hard to close again. With beam and floor left, Romania edged closer and closer. The last routine determined the final result. Larisa Iordache needed almost 13.000 to claim the victory for Romania. But it was not meant to be today. Her score of 12.766 gave Romania a total score of 154.496, less than 3 tenths behind the delighted Ukrainians who earned their first ever European team title!
Zsofia Kovacs led the Hungarian women to the bronze medal with the top score of 14.200 on both vault and bars while Turkey, Czech Republic and Croatia rounded up the top 6.
Congratulations to the 2020 European team medallists!
GOLD Ukraine 154.663
