The past two days Budapest’s Papp Laszlo Sports Arena saw the senior individual gymnasts battling for their place in the all-around and apparatus finals, and for the much sought-after last Olympic ticket.
Qualifications with hoop and ball were on the programme yesterday with clubs and ribbon contested today. Italy’s Sofia Raffaeli topped the leaderboard in the all-around, exactly 2 points ahead of rising star Daniela Munits. Furthermore, the 20-year-old Italian secured the top position with ball and ribbon, while also qualifying for the remaining two finals, hoop and clubs. Defending European all-around Champion Boryana Kaleyn (BUL) aced her hoop and clubs routines, leading the field there, and taking her to the fifth place all-around. Teammate Stiliana Nikolova delighted the crowd as she does wherever she goes, placing third all-around and qualifying to the hoop, ball and ribbon finals. Fourth place in the all-around came courtesy of Taisiia Onofriichuk. Ukraine’s talented first-year senior impressed here in Budapest, keeping her nerves under control. We’ll see her in the all-around, hoop, ball and ribbon finals.
2022 European all-around Champion Daria Atamanov (ISR), reigning World Champion Darja Varfolomeev (GER) and Spain’s Alba Bautista round out the top 8 in the all-around.
The last available Olympic ticket for individuals went to, pending FIG confirmation, Vera Tugolukova (CYP) after a nail-biting battle with Poland’s Liliana Lewinska.
