Let’s Fly! The Trampoline Gymnastics Newsletter N° 18 - June 2024

Dear friends of Trampoline Gymnastics,

Let’s reflect on the recent European Championships in Guimaraes, Portugal. It was an incredible success, with a record-breaking 423 gymnasts from 29 countries participating. Among the competitors, medallists from 16 different countries stood proudly on the podium, which is testament to their hard work and dedication.

We also want to recognise Slovakia’s Tamara Ustohalova and Great Britain’s Kristof Willerton, who received this year’s SmartScoring Shooting Star awards. Their achievements inspire us all.

Exciting additions to this year’s event included the ‘Fun Zone’, where gymnasts and fans enjoyed interactive experiences, and ‘Golden Tickets’ for qualifiers to the finals. A big thank you to the Portuguese federation and Eurotramp for helping us bring these ideas to life.

Another new process was the use of the Judges’ Evaluation Program (JEP) to analyse the quality of the judging at the competition. The inclusion provided us with useful insights and understandings for the future. We hope to share the reports with the individual judges very soon.

Our round table discussions were informative and insightful, thanks to the valuable contributions from all attendees. My technical committee and I are exploring ways to incorporate your ideas into our future events.

Looking ahead, we’re still searching for a host for the 2026 European Championships. If you’re interested, please contact me or a member of the TC.

This summer promises to be fun-filled and busy. Before Paris, our gymnasts will compete at World Cups in Arosa, Switzerland, and Coimbra, Portugal. And we have our annual training camp coming up!

The 29th edition of the European Championships in Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling welcomed a record-breaking 423 gymnasts from 29 countries to the wonderful city of Guimaraes, the cradle of Portugal. In five jam-packed days, history was written, new European Champions crowned, and titles defended.

What a wonderful competition we witnessed in beautiful Guimaraes! A huge ‘Obrigado’ to the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation and the Local Organising Committee for their impeccable organisation. And an even bigger Thank You to the gymnasts and officials for making this such a fabulous event!

As the Paris 2024 Olympics approach, Europe has secured an impressive 16 out of 32 Olympic places. This achievement reflects the strength and depth of our coaches and gymnasts. I would also like to congratulate the European judges selected to officiate in Paris. These selections show the quality and experience of judges that we have across the continent. Congratulations to everyone who will be part of the ‘Greatest Show on Earth’.

The Olympic trampoline competition will take place on Friday 2 August at the iconic Bercy Arena, the same venue that hosted the 1986 World Championships. I can’t wait to witness the world’s best gymnasts in action once again.

Our annual training camp in Sangalhos (POR) awaits, where gymnasts and coaches will sharpen their skills and create lasting memories. The camp has place for 50 gymnasts for TRA, 20 gymnasts for DMT and 30 gymnasts for TUM. Gymnasts must be aged between 11 - 18 to participate (born between 2013 and 2006).

A FIG Level 1 coaches academy will also be part of the camp which will be held from 21 to 27 July 2024.

These programmes are still open for registrations, so if you’re interested in attending either, contact your federation or my Technical Committee.

Invitation: Training camp 2024

In September, we’ll hold a workshop in Serbia, for coaches and judges from Serbia and neighbouring countries. The workshop will cover coaching and judging for trampoline. The sessions will be led by TC members Luis Nunes and Patrick Siegfried.

There’s still availability for support for one more training camp or workshop this year. If your federation wants to host one in trampoline, DMT, or tumbling, please get in touch with me or another TC member.

See you in Paris or Sangalhos for an unforgettable summer!
