The Fiera di Rimini filled up nicely this afternoon for the second part of the senior men’s apparatus finals. On the programme today: vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar. All three finals were packed with big names, ensuring the audience got its money’s worth in action and spectacle.
Starting off with the vault final … the battle for the title was fought between the reigning World Champion Jake Jarman and defending European Champion Artur Davtyan. Both are among the very best in the world on this apparatus and they showed why. Jarman’s first vault had a higher difficulty value while Davtyan had fabulous execution. Their average scores amounted to 14.883 compared to 14.850. Jake Jarman regains the European vault title he previously won in 2022 while Davtyan returns home with the silver medal. Ukraine’s Nazar Chepurnyi clinched the bronze medal, just as he did at last year’s World Championships.
On to parallel bars where defending Champion Illia Kovtun (UKR) put on a faultless display, running way ahead of his competitors, thanks to his impressive 6.9 difficulty score. A mammoth 15.633 ensured Kovtun can call himself the European Champion once again. And the night only got better for the 20-year-old. On horizontal bar, Kovtun narrowly edged Robert Tvorogal, Lithuania’s pride and joy for the gold medal. In less than an hour, Kovtun grabbed two European titles while just returning from surgery. What an incredible achievement!
Rimini is soon going to be Marios Georgiou’s favourite place in the world. After clinching the All-Around crown in dramatic fashion on Thursday, and earning bronze on pommel horse yesterday, the 26-year-old Cypriot added the silver on parallel bars and the bronze on horizontal bar today. He’s having the week of his life here.
Known for his consistence and all-around talent, Switzerland’s Noe Seifert wrote his name on the medal table as his 14.833 overtook France’s Cameron-Lie for the bronze medal on parallel bars.
Congratulations to the medallists!
