Italians witness Manila Esposito win European All-Around title at #Rimini2024

After a thrilling week of men’s competition, the women kicked off their European Championships. In the Fiera di Rimini, the senior women showed their worth in the qualification rounds.

After four exciting subdivisions, a new European All-Around Champion received her crown. Furthermore, the individual apparatus and team finalists are known.

Competing in front of an enthusiastic home audience, the Italian team looked ready to rock and roll. Manila Esposito aced her beam routine, the apparatus where she won silver at the last Europeans, for a fabulous start. Despair came on floor as 2022 European Champion Asia D’Amato clutched her knee after a tumbling pass and couldn’t continue. Twin Alice kept herself composed as she continued to battle for the all-around crown. Going into the final rotation, the Italians knew the task that lay ahead: hit their uneven bars routines. Of course, that just happens to be one of their specialties. Esposito scored 14.066 to set the bar with a total score of 55.432. Alice D’Amato needed more than 15 points to win. A fabulous performance earned her 14.633, and the silver medal.

Scheduled to perform on 3 events, Angela Andreoli stepped up and did the all-around, finishing in an impressive third place. For the medals though, the two-per-country rule applies.  The bronze went to 2022 silver medallist Alice Kinsella, courtesy of excellent vault and floor routines. Another medal for the British superstar, and a great confidence booster in view of the upcoming Olympic Games.

Speaking of Paris, Belgium’s Maelyse Brassart got, pending FIG confirmation, the last Olympic ticket available as her total score of 51.932 landed her in eleventh place.

Congratulations to the medallists!
