Home success for Robert Seligman and Ana Derek at Osijek World Cup

The World Challenge Cup series in Artistic Gymnastics stopped off in Croatia last week, putting on a spectacular show in Osijek. Hometown hero and ambassador of the event, Robert Seligman fought hard to finally win the gold medal in ‘his’ competition. And to the delight of the audience, the pommel horse specialist succeeded:

As I announced, I felt that I could win this year. Now that it happened, it is as if a great stone fell from my heart. I am aware that I am 33 years old and that I will perform and fight for the podium for another year, but I would be really sorry that I did not win a gold medal in my city

On Sunday, Ana Derek added to the Croatian joy as she clinched the title on floor. 6 more European countries won gold medals: Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat won floor, Azerbaijan’s Nikita Simonov rings, Lithuania’s Robert Tvorogal parallel bars, Russians Alexei Rostov high bar and Anastasia Agafonova uneven bars, Slovenia’s Teja Belak was the best on vault, and Ukraine’s Angelina Radivilova on beam.
