Second day of competition in the Antalya Sports Hall, second day of historic performances!
Today, the women competed in their qualification rounds which also determined the team ranking and the team qualifiers to the 2023 World Championships.
The British team featuring Georgia-Mae Fenton, Ondine Achampong, Becky Downie, Jessica Gadirova and Alice Kinsella delivered when it counted to post a total score of 164.428, winning the European Team title for the first time in history!
Gadirova, the defending European Champion on floor, showed why she’s rapidly becoming Europe’s leading lady in the sport, earning the highest score in the All-Around, and on beam and floor. Fenton amassed 52.899, placing 5th place all-around and outscoring Vice-European Champion Alice Kinsella by just over three tenths for a place in the final. 2014 and 2016 European Champion Downie marked a successful return to competition, on her signature event bars.
Angela Andreoli, Alice D’Amato, Manila Esposito, Asia D’Amato and Giorgia Villa combined efforts to clinch the silver medal for Italy, with Alice laying in third place all-around, leading on bars and qualifying to both the beam and floor finals. Twin sister Asia, the defending European all-around Champion, scratched floor making her eligible to defend her title but earned a place in the vault final.
The Netherlands, inspired by stellar all-around performances by Naomi Visser and Eythora Thorsdottir and an excellent beam routine by 2016 Olympic Champion Sanne Wevers, stepping onto the podium to receive bronze medal.
France’s Coline Devillard, the Champion in 2017, leads on vault ahead of Belgium’s Lisa Vaelen.
