Day 2 of the 29th European Championships in Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling saw the junior qualifications in Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling while the senior trampolinists performed their two initial routines, aiming for a place in the team final and individual semi-final.
In the evening, the top 5 team returned to action as they contested the team final. 3 gymnasts per team, one in each round, with the winner of the round earning 5 points, second place clinching 4 points and so on.
In a nail-biting women’s team final, France and Georgia went head-to-head. The experienced Luba Golovina led her Georgian team with a stellar performance in the first round. Then, France’s Laura Paris won round 2, and Georgia’s Mariam Ragimovi round 3. The final results? 12 – 12! The tie was broken based on the combined Time of Flight scores, giving France the edge. The home nation Portugal combined forces to clinch the bronze medal. The Ukrainian ladies finished fourth and Germany fifth.
The guys completed the French party with defending European Champion Allan Morante securing victory in round 3. His teammates Julian Chartier and Pierre Gouzou paved the way to the team’s total score of 13 by both placing second in their round. The fight for silver and bronze ended with Germany and Spain both tied, 9 points each. Again, the total Time of Flight was calculated. Silver for Germany, an excellent gift for birthday boy Caio Lauxtermann. Spain was delighted with their bronze medal, edging Great Britain by just a point. Belgium placed fifth, in what was only their second ever trampoline team final.
