The Olympic Champion strikes again

In the first final of the afternoon, reigning Olympic Champion on floor Artem Dolgopyat (ISR) showed once again why this is his signature event. His difficult tumbling was rewarded with 14.966 to overtake first performer Krisztofer Meszaros for the European title. Jake Jarman (GBR) earned the bronze medal, just ahead of reigning World Champion Nicola Bartolini (ITA) and Ukraine’s Ilia Kovtun.

Merdinyan’s pommel flair

After winning at the 2016 Europeans, Armenia’s Harutyun Merdinyan returned to the top of the podium today as he outscored Dutchman Loran De Munck for the pommel horse title. Posting the highest difficulty, De Munck had an ever so slight form break on his way to silver, the first ever medal on pommel horse for The Netherlands! On home soil, Nils Dunkel impressed his countrymen, taking the bronze over France’s Benjamin Osberger.

SILVER Loran DE MUNCK (NED) 14.700

He’s back!

In his first competition since the Tokyo Olympic Games, Lord of the Rings Eleftherios Petrounias made it clear that he’s back in top shape. The Greek superstar looked calm and composed as he aimed to overtake Adem Asil’s score to beat of 15.033. And he did exactly that, going a tenth higher for his 6th European title on this apparatus. Something that’s never been done before. Last up, Courtney Tulloch (GBR) squeezed by Vahagn Davtyan (ARM) and Vinzenz Hoeck (AUT) for the bronze medal.

SILVER Adem ASIL (TUR) 15.033

BRONZE Courtney TULLOCH (GBR) 14.866

Divine difficulty

Ever spectacular, today’s vault final showed off the divine combination of difficulty and execution. Jake Jarman (GBR) impressed with great height and technique to clinch the gold over Armenia’s Artur Davtyan who makes the most difficult vaults look easy. On their heels, Igor Radivilov (UKR) showed courage and dedication as he struggles with the complications caused by the war in his country.

SILVER Artur DAVTYAN (ARM) 14.983

BRONZE Igor RADIVILOV (UKR) 14.899

World Champion class

On parallel bars, we witnessed a world class display with 2019 World Champion Joe Fraser (GBR) and 2020 junior European Champion Ilia Kovtun (UKR) going head-to-head. Both excelled and scored 15.333 so a tie breaker awarded Fraser the gold based on the higher execution score. Teammate Giarnni Regini-Moran took the bronze medal with Spain’s Nicolau Mir finishing fourth.

Soaring high

In the last final of these Championships, Marios Georgiou gave the best of himself. Scoring 14.400, he easily won the gold, the first ever European gold for Cyprus. 2019 European Games Champion Robert Tvorogal (LTU) performed a great routine but wasn’t impressed with the score. After filling an inquiry, he got bumped up by a tenth, and securing the silver medal. Spain’s Joel Plata, who had a fabulous week here in Munich, was rewarded with the bronze medal.
