Varna’s Palace of Culture and Sports witnessed breath-taking performances today as the senior gymnasts fought for all-around glory.
After completing the Balance and Dynamic routines over the previous 2 days, all gymnasts now performed their combined routine. The three scores added together determined the all-around ranking.
A cut above the rest, Belgium’s Sofie Jaeken, Mirte Vercauteren and Lauren Verbrugghe cruised to victory in the women’s group, showcasing a brilliantly choreographed exercise to amass a grand total of 86.780. More than 5 points more than their nearest rivals! Next to them on the podium: Eduarda Portela, Carolina Marques and Joana Pinto earned the silver for Portugal while Lisa Konrad, Finja Kaminski and Laura Konrad added the bronze to Germany’s medal tally.
Laura Karczmarzyk and Leni Ohlsen enjoyed a comfortable margin to clinch the European crown, their second gold medal of this event. In the battle for silver and bronze, Kamila Bryskiewicz and Zofia Kaminska (POL) edged Beatriz Carneiro and Yasmin Rodrigues (POR) 78.690 to 78.670. Just 0.020 difference after three routines, it doesn’t get any better than this!
Ever spectacular, the men’s groups showed off their impressive skills, to the delight of the audience that saw the competition unfold from the edge of their seats. Portugal for the win! Vicente Colaco, Goncalo Sampaio, Nuno Antos and Joao Teles overtook their British competitors Harley Curtis-Lawrence, Hector Kinghorn, William Clark and Harry Hole while Germany’s Andreas Benke, Aaron Borck, Pascale Dressler and Carl Frankenstein secured the bronze medal.
A golden end to the penultimate day courtesy of Azerbaijan, as both their mixed and men’s pair shone bright. Aghasif Rahimov and Raziya Seyidli finished with a dramatic performance to total 86.620, comfortably taking the title ahead of Ukraine’s Anastasiia Semenovych and Bohdan Ivanyk and Germany’s Daniel Blintsov and Diana Lust.
Men’s pair Daniel Abbasov and Murad Rafiyev outclassed Spain’s Jose Moreno and Juan Daniel Molina for the gold with Goncalo Parreira & Miguel Lopes (POR) earning the bronze medal.
10 more finals on the programme tomorrow!
