Aleksandra Soldatova sweeps the Guadalajara gold medals

In front of thousands of passionate Spanish fans, Russia’s Aleksandra Soldatova lived up to her status of ‘Queen of Spain’ by winning all 5 gold medals at the World Challenge Cup in Guadalajara! A popular gymnast wherever she goes, in Spain Soldatova has a goddess-like status and it clearly brings out the best in her as she is cheered on by the enthusiastic crowd who literally goes crazy for her.

Her all-around victory was comfortable, more than 3 points clear of compatriot Ekaterina Selezneva with Italy’s Alexandra Agiurgiuculese claiming the bronze medal. In apparatus finals, Soldatova added all four titles to her collection, giving her fans ultimate value for their money. Selezneva and Agiurgiuculese each added three more medals, one silver and two bronzes each. Success also for Ukraine’s Yeva Meleshchuk and Khrystyna Pochranychna as they clinched a silver medal each, for ball and hoop respectively.

In the group competition, Italy, Bulgaria and Russia claimed a title each, just like at the Europeans in the same venue last year. Italy came out on top in the all-around, scoring more than 50 points. Russia won the gold for their five balls routine while Bulgaria was the best in the 3 + 2 final.
