Adem Asil secures historic home victory at #Antalya2023

The men’s all-around final had the spectators at the Antalya Sports Hall on the edge of their seat in thrilling battle for the European title.

Home favourite Adem Asil (TUR) won the bronze medallist last year in Munich and look prepared and focused from the start. Excelling on rings where he scored 15.033 and on vault with 15.100, Asil went into the last rotation as the clear leader. He nailed his high bar routine, totalling 84.965. When this final score flashed, the party quite literally erupted on the Field of Play. The first ever European all-around title for Asil, and the first all-around victory for the Turkish men. With Ahmet Onder’s silver last year, they now even have a full set of all-around medals at the European level.

In the absence of defending Champion Joe Fraser, the British hopes rested on the young but definitely capable shoulders of Jake Jarman. Last year’s vault champion earned his highest score there, an impressive 15.266, for a vault that just kept on twisting. His floor and parallel bars performances were equally excellent, earning him a total of 83.463 and the silver medal.

Top qualifier Ilia Kovtun came into the last rotation in 5th place. With a fabulous high bar routine featuring impressive release skills and a sky-high dismount, the 19-year-old Ukrainian landed himself a place on the podium. This bronze medal equals his Basel 2021 result.

Vault World Champion Artur Davtyan put up a strong fight, highlighted by a 15.100 on vault. The Armenian finished in the unfortunate fourth place, just 0.001 ahead of Switzerland’s rising star Noe Seifert.

Italy’s Yumin Abbadini, Switzerland’s Florian Langenegger and Germany’s Pascal Brendel round out the top 8!
