5th ECh in Artistic Gymnastics in Moscow : apparatus finals 2nd part

After the qualifications of Wednesday for the men and Thursday for the women, the 8 best gymnasts of each apparatus line up again for the respective final. Today’s finals include the vault, parallel bars and high bar for the men as well as beam and floor for the women.

After yesterday’s first apparatus finals it continued today with the 5 last apparatus that also brought some surprises particularly in the men finals.

For the female gymnasts, the two podiums of today were exclusively Russian/Romanian.

On beam it is L. A. Iordache/ROU who takes the European title followed by her teammate D. L. Bulimar. The Bronze medal goes to A. Grishina/RUS.

On floor, the Russian anthem played for the victory of K. Afanaseva that delighted the numerous spectators present; she performed a stunning performance of outstanding level and a beautiful choreography full of valuable difficulty elements. The silver and bronze medals are awarded to the Romanians Iordache and Bulimar.

The male gymnasts started their day on vault; on this first apparatus we saw quite some errors and falls. It is finally the Russian D. Ablyazin who dominates ahead of the Romanian F. Koczi and A. Davtyan/ARM in third position.

On parallel bars, the favourite M. Nguyen/GER, Olympic medallist, can’t avoid a fall which costs him a place on the podium. The Ukrainian O. Stepko takes home the European title after convincing the judges with an excellent execution of his routine. The surprise comes from the Swiss L. Fischer who manages a clean routine wining the silver medal. The bronze medal is awarded to the Russian European all-around Champion D. Belyavskiy.

Finally, today’s competition and these Championships are coming to an end with the last final on high bar. Here as well we get to see falls of two favourites with the London Olympic silver medalist F. Hambuechen/GER and M. Moznik/CRO leaving the podium to E. Garibov/RUS whose exercise presented a high number of difficulties awarded with the European title. Silver goes to S. Oldham/GBR and bronze to A. Tsarevich from Belarus.
