Following the qualifications of Wednesday for the men and Thursday for the women, the 8 best gymnasts of each apparatus line up again for the apparatus finals.
Scheduled for today were the floor, the pommel horse and the ring finals for the men as well as the vault and the uneven bars for the women.
Unlike yesterday where the gymnasts competed to get the best total of the 6 apparatus for men and the 4 apparatus for women, today they had to focus on the apparatus for which they qualified.
Each final was immediately followed by the medal ceremony which made for a continuous flow. The level was excellent and today’s first part of the apparatus finals was an exciting competition with many surprises. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
The boys started on floor. Whitlock was the top qualifier and gets to start this final.
Shatilov/ISR and Whitlock/GBR get the same score and take the title of European Champion on floor. Cingolani/ITA takes home the bronze medal.
The girls continue with the vault final. Van Klaveren/NED did a brilliant jump and ended up sharing the second step of the winner’s podium with the Romanian IORDACHE (14.466).
The Swiss Steingruber did a stunning performance and deservedly takes home the title.
Next on the schedule was pommel horse with Berki as top qualifier ahead of Whitlock and Ude.
But it is finally D. Keatings/GBR that takes off the title, leaving behind the Olympic Champion Berki and his teammate Whitlock.
Nice surprise with the arrival of the Swedish Adlerteg in the top 3 on uneven bars. Her score of 14.633 was awarded with the silver medal.
The Olympic Champion Mustafina secures the title at the uneven bars with a solid routine. The winners’ podium is completed with the Russian Paseka winning bronze.
Last final of the day on rings. Ablyazin qualified in first position followed by Petrounias and Radivilov.
Ait Said (FRA), back on the international stage after an injury last year, obtains a 15.466 after presenting an excellent routine.
He wins the title and shares it with Radivilov. His teammate Pinheiro-Rodrigues secures the bronze medal and shares the third step of the podium with the Italian Morandi.
The competition continues tomorrow with the second part of these apparatus finals.
