Gymnasts representing the Russian Federation swept the individual titles at the Tashkent World Cup last weekend, with Aleksandra Soldatova winning the all-around gold and three apparatus titles. Newcomer Anastasia Guyenkova won the gold with ribbon and collected a further silver and 2 bronze medals, including for her all-around performance where she came third behind Bulgaria’s Boryana Kaleyn. Vlada Nikolchenko (UKR) and Neviana Vladinova (BUL) are looking promising with the Europeans just three weeks away. And … a historic moment for Slovenia as Ekaterina Vedeneeva clinched the country’s first ever World Cup medal, a bronze with ribbon!
In the group competition, Russia scored a huge 50.300 for the all-around victory. 6 points ahead of Uzbekistan and Ukraine in third position. Russia also won gold with 3 hoops and 2 pairs of clubs. The ladies from Ukraine did manage to upset the Russian party in Tashkent by winning the gold for their 5 balls routine beating Israel and Russia.
