On the second day of the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Europeans, the juniors competed over 3 subdivisions for all-around and team glory and a place in the apparatus finals.
The top two teams of the recent European Youth Olympic Festival, Romania and Germany, competed in the first subdivision, setting the standard early on. Germany’s Helen Kevric truly was on fire, cruising to the lead in the all-around with a huge 52.932. It proved enough to secure the gold with a comfortable margin of 1,5 points. The first junior European all-around title for Germany in history, and that on home soil! And she’s going into Sunday’s apparatus finals with the top score on vault and floor, and the third score on both bars and bars. Her efforts on the podium also helped Germany secure the bronze with the team. Romania’s standout today, Amalia Ghigoarta posted a 13.233 on beam, the top score there, clinching the silver medal in the all-around. Sabrina Maneca-Voinea added to Romanian team total with strong performances on vault, beam and floor while Amalia Puflea excelled on beam and floor, earning the team silver. Strongest in senior qualifying yesterday, the Italian juniors knew they had big shoes to fill. Led by Viola Pierazzini’s consistent routines, they did exactly that with Pierazzini clinching the all-around bronze along the way and EYOF bars Champion Martina Pieratti posting the best note again, a 13.466, on that apparatus.
For the teams, Great Britain, France, Czech Republic, Belgium and Switzerland round out the top 8.
Congratulations to the medallists!
